Amanda couldn't help but chuckle at what Jack said about her beating up the boys before she couldn't stand the feeling of being dragged out of there by her hair anymore. She wasn't physically dragged by the hair, but that's what it felt like when her mother's spell was in full work. It wasn't until she was outside smoking her much needed cigarette, listening to the rain fall that she felt better. Gradually, the sadness went away and the rain with it.
Pushing her hair up into a loose bun, she made sure it stayed up by placing a few bobby-pins before pulling herself together and stepping inside again. Wrapping her arms around herself like she'd done when she'd first let go of Kailah, she kept to the back, scowling at her mother. "That was totally uncalled for," she said loud enough for Jack's ears only, keeping her parents in the dark.
"Happy birthday sweetheart," she whispered to her daughter, knowing she'd hear her across the room with her senses. She'd deal with her mother the moment the guests were gone. Marie needed to know exactly how unfair it was that she was treating her.

Jack was busy with Kailah but heard what Amanda said and looked somewhat confused at what she was talking about till Kailah pulled his attention away. He didnt know what was going on, but Amanda's mother seem to look rather pleased with herself and couldn't help but to wonder if she had done something that made Amanda leave the room.
He sigh and tried to put on a happy face. Kailah looked up and smiled at her mother before finally Jack had to get er clean up. He had her redressed in simple jeans and a pink shirt."Time for presents." He announced as he started to get all the presents together. Their was a mountain of them and he had to get his friends to help him.

Amanda knew there would probably be a confrontation with her mother once the other guests were gone. Hopefully she'd be able to make her point without losing it so Casey wouldn't have to intervene as that would be the ultimate sign of defeat. No, she wouldn't let her magic rule her when dealing with her mother. Marie had already proven to be quite the resourceful woman that evening.
When Jack returned after redressing Kailah, Amanda stood close enough so her daughter didn't have to search for her, but still far enough away to not push her parents too far.
Amanda had already given Kailah her birthday present; the charms bracelet wasn't just pretty and something to remember her by, it served as a protective charm, letting her parents know if she were ever in trouble. Hopefully she'd keep it as she got older, though Amanda knew there was no need to push it.
"Smile at the camera?" she said, wanting to take a picture of Kailah and Jack together with her phone so she'd have more to remember this day by.

He looked up at the camera and smiled, making Kailah look up from her present opening. Kailah didn't need any help as she shredded the wrapping paper open. It took awhile to open presents and Jack almost didn't know where to put then all.
Finally the paper was all done with a most of the guest went home besides Amanda and her parents. He prayed that they wouldn't cause trouble as he played with Kailah on the living room floor.

The picture turned out perfect and Amanda couldn't be happier about her daughter's skilled way of opening presents. It was fun to watch her enjoy herself so much. Before long, the party was over and they were the only ones left. Amanda didn't quite know how to deal with her parents actually being more or less alone with her other than to take a deep breath and push all her feelings about the matter away until she was as still water, not a ripple on the surface. If she didn't feel any negative emotions, Casey would have nothing to take from her and she'd still be able to stand-off against her parents calmly and quietly.
Her dad was about to say something when Amanda looked over at him with a slight smirk. "Save it, dad, it won't make a difference," she said completely calm and grabbed her mother's arm, pulling her away from Jack and Kailah. They didn't need to be outside or out of sight, just not right where Kailah could so easily pick up on what was going on despite her mother's best effort to keep it from her. Creating sort of like an invisible bubble around the two women, Amanda made sure no sound would be able to escape to the outside as she needed a word in private with her mother, but didn't dare step outside as she was terrified Jack wouldn't believe her when she said she hadn't done anything bad.
"I told you the last time we spoke, you can't have it both ways mother. You can't be Kailah's grandma and cut me out of your lives all at once. You're supposed to love me unconditionally." Before her mother had a chance to respond, Amanda shook her head slightly and lowered the barrier again. "Whatever it is, you can tell me later," she said with a chuckle and turned her attention back to Kailah and sat down to play her daughter. So far, she'd been in control of her temper, without relying on Casey and that alone was a pretty big improvement.

Jack just watched as Kailah played with her new toys and sigh softly. He didn't know what to expect now that the party was done and over sigh. It seemed like Amanda's dad wanted to say something, but Amanda cut him short before dragging her mother off and they started talking.
He was somewhat worried about how this was going to go down but things seemed calmed at the moment. He said nothing once they came out from their conversation and Amanda started playing with Kailah now.

It seemed her mother didn't want to drag it out any further, which was fine with Amanda. They could hash it out all they wanted when they were alone and no one could get caught in the cross fire. Figuratively speaking of course. There would be no fires, Casey would see to that. Water and winds however, she'd be able to keep calm with those elements on her side.
"It was a beautiful party, Jack," she said and started to braid Kailah's pig tails while she was playing. She wanted to keep focusing on the positive, that meant ignoring her mother for the time being. If the woman couldn't see that she was trying to change, she wanted nothing to do with her at the moment. It was no point trying to change the woman's mind and Amanda had enough negativity in her life already and didn't need to add more misery to the pile.
"Thanks again, for everything Jack," she said with a smile, and moved around Kailah's bracelet a little. "You'll always know whether or not she's safe, as long as you keep this close," she said and pulled out a wolf on a necklace, identical to the one on Kailah's bracelet and handed it to Jack.

"Thank you." He said and smiled some. He watched the two for a moment till Amanda's father asked to speak to him alone.
The two were gone for about five minutes and he sat back down in time for Amanda to give him a bracelet that was identical to Kailah's. He smile and took it.
Kailah started yawning and he picked her up, taking her to his room and got her ready for a nap as he started to pick up around the house.
"How long do you want to stay?" Jack asked.

Amanda was surprised when her dad wanted to speak with Jack alone, but didn't question it. Instead she enjoyed the time she had with her daughter before Jack returned in time to receive the necklace she gave him. She'd forgotten that Kailah needed to sleep often in all the excitement and couldn't help but kiss her daughter's hair one last time before Jack could take her out of the room.
After Jack had put Kailah down, Amanda's parents seemed to expect that she was ready to leave with them now. At Jack's question, she shrugged slightly. "I think I have to go as soon as we've helped you pick up," she said and looked at her parents so they'd understand that suggesting to leave without helping Jack wasn't a good thing.
So the Bennetts helped Jack pick up until it was all better again and she hugged the werewolf tightly. "I'll see you soon," she whispered. There was no way she was going to let it be too long before she got to spend time with her daughter again, even if she did have to battle her own mother for it in a few moments. The might just have a battle of wits, or words, that was probably the safest, but Amanda knew full well that her father wouldn't want to be in the same room as them until they were done.
