It turned out to be a lot easier to keep up with what Finnley was signing than she'd thought it would be. She knew she still needed to work on her own signing, but it was good to be able to use it to actually talk to someone outside of class for a change. She was grateful she'd learned the very basics in high school, getting her interested in learning in the first place. It was a useful thing to know as she never knew when she had to use it, tonight was a perfect example of that. It definitely beat talking about things that went bump in the night out loud.
"Both. They are somewhat related," she signed back, wondering how to say what she really wanted to say without being too obvious about it. His answer had indicated that he knew something about the things that went on around town, but she could never be too sure. Deciding just to show him rather than tell him, she placed her hands firmly on the table again and just concentrated for a moment before they seemingly fell right through the table. Moving her hands back around the edge of the table so she could sign again, she was biting her lip slightly again. "Like I said, I moved here for school a few years back. My cousin nicknamed me Ghost..."

Finnley looked almost cautious now at the first response he had gotten back from Amber, not too sure what to make of it. He noticed she was trying to think of what else to say, but instead of signing she put her hands on the table. He looked from her face to her hands for a moment before giving a bit of a jump that her hands passed right through the hard surface of the table. Blue eyes went wide at this, not exactly sure what to make of it. He just kept staring for a moment, body tense. If this had been his first experience with this sort of thing he would have thought he was turning into an extremely cheap drunk or something, but thanks to gale this was a bit easier to take down. He watched Amber sign then, keeping an eye on her hands. He gave a small smile at the nickname, seeing as to how it would make sense. "So you're a gifted? Guess ya never know what to expect. Will say its better than a mind readin' werewolf being pissed at ya, had that happen already." He had finger-spelt the word werewolf, not knowing exactly what level she was at with her signing just to make things easier for her. He had managed to chuckle about the encounter he was mentioning, knowing it was all bridge under the water now with Hunter. He was starting to think he was the only human really around though according to his interactions so far.

It was good that he didn't do more than jump slightly when she phased through the table like that. Her roommate had refused to talk to her for a while after learning the truth, but Amber had figured there was no way she'd get away with it for too long anyway so she might as well just come clean. And with Finnley it was more that she wanted to start out being honest as she knew her gifts could freak people out if they caught others unaware. Better he knew now when she hardly knew him than later when he thought he knew her. If they even got that close, one could never be too careful.
It was good that he spelled out the word werewolf as she didn't know how to sign that word, at least she could understand him that way. They didn't exactly teach you about how to sign supernaturals and stuff at school. It wasn't exactly something you'd need for most jobs requiring you were able to sign. "So you've run into others as well?" Relief was flooding through her though that he hadn't run away yet. "I can disappear too. Can you sign werewolf for me?" she asked, spelling out werewolf again. She wanted to learn the proper way to sign it as it would be easier than spelling it out every time.

Finnley watched Amber carefully, not exactly knowing what she would sign next after she just passed her hands through the table and such. He did pick up on her starting to look a bit more relaxed though after getting her ability out of the way. His eyes followed her hand motions, unable to help chuckle some at being asked if he'd ran into others. "Yeah I have, so far its been a vampire, a werewolf, a witch, and some woman that could shoot sparks in a sense. though I will say your ability is one I don't mind." He smiled at her, not seeming too surprised at learning she could turn invisible as well. He could remember wanting to disappear at times when he was younger, but he didn't mind things so much anymore. He blinked a bit confused at her asking the sign for werewolf. He thought it would be easier to just fingerspell as he had been for most of the supernatural titles, but he would show her. He gave her a nod about the sign before doing so. It mostly translated to wolf-man for the most part, but that was what he had been taught as the sign for werewolf. "Spelling it out tends to work better for most. Only reason I know the sign is because of my teachers when I was in a deaf academy. Read too many stories I guess you could say. Couldn't really explain it to the other students when I talked so I was able to teach them new signs too." Finnley could only smile softly at the memories. He was always so excited when he had first started to learn sign language, even went as far as trying to teach cousins and his parents. He shook the memories though, knowing he could still somewhat hear then as well.

It was good that Finnley had run into other supernaturals before her, it probably made it easier for him to be so open-minded about her relatively harmless ability. It wasn't so harmless when she'd used it to do mischief, but that felt like a long time ago now. Sure, she'd still use it for that if the occasion presented itself, but she didn't go looking for opportunities anymore. So she watched as he signed that he'd run into a vampire, werewolf and a witch as well as another superhuman. It was good to know he didn't mind her ability though.
She knew she probably would never need to know how to sign werewolf, but she was eager to learn. So she watched him intently and tried to mimic the way he signed it. It was kind of weird how fast she'd gotten comfortable with signing with Finnley rather than talking. Normally she was rather self-conscious about her signing, but it was the only way to actually learn. "I love to learn new things, and reading is always good."
There was a reason why she'd chosen English as her major after all. Not only was it her favorite subject in school, but she loved reading, so reading books for literature class wasn't such a difficult thing to do after all. "I used to be very shy in high school, so the invisibility came in handy. Especially since I could hardly talk to guys at all, I think that's some of the reason why I wanted to learn to sign." She said, spelling the word 'invisibility' as she didn't quite know how to sign that one either. It seemed she was good at thinking on her feet and spelling out the words she didn't know rather than just giving up.

Finnley watched her mimic the sign, giving a nod and a smile at getting it right for the most part. He liked to share signs when he could, knowing even sign language had several dialects. He watched her sign, almost seeming to focus more when she finger spelt invisibility. He couldn't help his softer chuckle, glad she seemed to have come a long way with socializing. He started his turn of talking. "I used to want to hide as a kid. I could still hear some until I was about 13-14. It was rather frustrating until my hearing just stopped working. I got more comfortable then, and well. Here I am." He laughed it off like he always did, but if one paid enough attention there was still some frustration about it in him. It wasn't a lot, but enough to be noticed.

It was good know that she was picking up signs fast as well. She knew she still had a lot to learn, but she was more confident that she would actually stick with the courses now than she had been before running into Finnley. Amber was also obviously more comfortable with the other than she had been before she'd decided to give her signing a real try. It was less stressful than actually talking and she got to do something useful at the same time. Namely make new friends, though if things continued to go so well, she might ask him to have a coffee or something with her at some point.
"Disappearing isn't always such a good thing. I managed to keep it to myself for a few years before mom found out and sent me to live here so I could be around more people like me. Her and my sister are both normal, so it might have been too much to handle." She didn't resent her mother for sending her to live with Amanda for a while to finish high school without freaking people out by accident. It still didn't sit quite right with her that her family hadn't been able to move out here with her rather than leaving her with her gifted family.
"Tell me about Ireland? I've never left the country before.." She decided it was better to change the subject and not be stuck on something that put a damper on her mood. Amber wanted to enjoy herself and continue to be happy so that Finnley didn't have to worry that something was wrong.

Finnley watched amber sign, giving a bit of a nod along with a sad expression. He didn't even want to think of how he would have responded to being sent away for being unable to hear. The thought honestly scared him, knowing he might have become a bit bitter towards his parents if they hadnt been so understanding. He was able to leave such thoughts though as he he watched her start to sign again. He was quick to pep up again, moving his hands calmly as he explained his home. "It's lovely. My parents were mostly city based with dad being a pilot. But my uncle had a farm I went to all the time! I'd play football with my cousins in the huge fields he had. Kind of miss the place, but this place is interesting enough. Keeps me on my toes." He laughed at the end, trying to find it amusing and not completely terrifying to be in a town with monsters.

Amber would probably never have gained so much control over her gifts if she hadn't been around witches so much. So there was no reason to complain too much, and she was welcome home at any time, the last few months had proven that to her. It was just that it would have been nice to have her family here. Maybe her aunt Marie could help persuade her so Amber could see her sister a lot more often than right now.
It was a nice distraction to watch Finnley sign about his home country. It was obvious it got him all excited as well, which was a good thing. She liked it when he was excited and happy. She liked making people happy and seeing them happy. It made the efforts she made of trying to be less shy and more sociable seem worth it. It also made for more interesting conversations.
"It sounds nice. Though this place is fun at times." She was trying to be reassuring. It was probably safer for her than it was for Finnley because she could always just get out of danger with no problem at all. If she was trapped against a wall, she could always just step back through it. Humans and other people didn't normally have that chance.
Deciding to take a risk since they seemed to be getting along rather well, she was actually blushing slightly was signing next. "Would you maybe like to have a coffee or something some time?" She didn't want to say that she'd like to get to know him better in a place with less noise to distract her, because that would be insensitive.

Finnley grinned like an idiot for a moment, a bit of a laugh leaving him too. He could admit to having a hole in his heart some over having to leave Ireland, but he knew he'd adjust over time. He watched her sign about this place being fun. He could only nod for a moment before being confused. Finnley was pretty blind to some emotions aside from happy, angry, or sad, so amber blushing confused him until she signed. A grin stretched his face again, signing. "I'd like that. It's much easier to sign anyhow, not as many odd glances in a coffee shop. Been getting the odd look here. I think that guy at the pool table is laughing at us." Finnley was pretty good at gesturing to others while signing, most not knowing he was even doing so because of his hand movements.

It was good that the other agreed to have coffee with her some time, because she'd love to get to know him without her friends calling out for her like they were at the moment. She heard them laughing too and couldn't help but turn and make a face at the guy. Turning back to Finnley, she couldn't help but chuckle. "That's Chris, we had some classes together last term," she explained, spelling out his name as she wasn't good at names in general.
Finding a pen in her pocket, she grabbed a napkin and scribbled her name and number on it for Finnley. "I have to go, my friends want to go somewhere else. It was nice to meet you," she signed and smiled at Finnley before getting up from her seat. She'd really wished her friends would be more subtle about their mocking, but she would get back at them later. All in good fun anyway, right?

Finnley gave a nod at learning who what's teasing them in a sense. He glanced between Amber and her friends' strange means of mocking them. He couldn't hear them but their behavior looked rather strange even to him. He watched her write a number down on a napkin, eyes looking to smile some. He reached for the napkin as she signed her farewell for the time being. "It was nice meeting you too." He gave a bit of a wave to Amber as she walked off to join her friends. He paid for the few drinks he had before heading out of the bar for the night. He couldn't help to have a bit of a smile then, glad to have made a friend this evening.
