Here's an overview of the different kinds of characters you can create on this site. We've outlined the basics for each species, but you're still pretty free as long as you keep somewhat to the guidelines provided below.
Humans - self-explanatory really, but here goes. Humans are people without special powers. Just regular people with no extraordinary abilities.
Estimated lifespan: 80-100 years.
Hunters: - regular humans who've trained hard most of their childhood to be able to effectively hunt supernaturals. Some specialize in certain kinds of supernaturals, others hunt any kind of supernatural. The most common hunters just hunt vampires though as they tend to be most dangerous to humans. There are some superhumans as well that choose to hunt other supernaturals that they fear are at risk of hurting humans.
Estimated lifespan: 80-100 years.
Witches: They are like humans, only gifted by nature to change the aspect of the world around them. This magic they have can have one of many attributes of nature, including non-elemental types such as charming objects and illusion. This is the only species able to make daylight rings for vampires but it must be a skill they are highly marked for.
They are also able to make potions and remedies for a lot of various ailments, though it helps to have a good eye for healing magic for this to work.
Some witches work closely with the spirit realm, some don't. It's a very individual thing how a witch works. If a witch is powerful enough, she's able to prolong her already long lifespan.
A Necromancer has no known lifespan as they can prolong their life indefinitely by using the life force of creatures around them, humanoid and otherwise. This is a rare gift that is usually hereditary and not something you can successfully learn unless you have a natural talent for it.
Estimated lifespan: 150-200 years.
Superkids: These are people that have undergone some form of mutation or don't fall under any of the other species classes. They can have anything from fire manipulation to being full sized dragons to even being subject of experiments. In most cases, evolution played a role in creating these abilities, other times science.
Estimated lifespan: 80-100 years. Though in this case it depends entirely on the type of superkid.

Vampires: Vampires possess heightened senses, meaning they can see, hear, smell etc way better than humans can. They are also much faster and stronger than humans. They possess basic mind control powers, though the efficiency of this is highly contingent upon the age of the vampire as well as whether s/he is feeding on human or animal blood.
Vampire blood has certain healing qualities. Not only does a vampire heal quickly, but if their blood is rubbed against a wound it can stop bleeding and if injected or digested by a human it can help with any health issues or injuries. However, too much of a transference of blood can lead to vampiric tendencies such as light sensitivity and a constant thirst.
A vampire has several weaknesses as well. If they are exposed to the sun without wearing an enchanted ring or piece of jewelry they will slowly burn to a crisp. A werewolf's bite is lethal as is a wooden object straight to the heart and decapitation. They can also be burned to death in fires. Other than that, it takes a lot to kill a vampire.
To become a vampire you must die with enough vampire blood in your system to start the process and when you wake up you'll be in agonizing pain unless you ingest human blood. The process won't complete until you've fed, which must happen withing three days or you'll die.
A vampire cannot enter the home of a living person without an invitation. (This does not include necromancers as they deal too closely with the dead to be truly counted as among the living.)
Special powers: Sometimes, when a human has a predisposition for something and is turned, this turns into a special power. If a human is kind of empathic and is turned into a vampire, this might transfer into a form of empathy where the vampire may feel other people's feelings.
Witches who are turned often maintain some of their powers in one way or form, though not a lot of witches choose to go through with the process once it's started. Superkids might also retain some of their powers once their are turned.

Werewolves: A werewolf possesses much of the same strengths as a vampire, making them a worthy adversary. Their senses are enhanced like a wolf's, they are stronger than regular humans and much faster. Since the process of turning into a wolf is usually quite painful, most werewolves also have a higher tolerance for pain than most humans. They also heal faster than humans.
Werewolves turn into regular sized wolves every full moon, it's the only time of the month they have no choice in the matter. Any other day, they can turn at will either into a wolf or they can use certain wolfish attributes in their human form. For a battle for instance they can remain in a somewhat human form, with fangs and long claws, making them lethal fighting machines if they know how to use their weapons.
A werewolf is either born or made. If you're born to a werewolf and possess the gene, it will manifest itself after you've hit puberty and your body is ready for the changes. If you're bitten by a werewolf the time leading up to your first full moon is absolutely agonizing as your body is adjusting to the changes.
Werewolves are weak against silver. Though they heal faster than humans, they can die of injuries. They are most vulnerable when they shift as their focus is on the process, though this window doesn't last long.
Wolves tend to keep to their own in packs as they are stronger together than they are alone. Of course, there are some exceptions in the form of loners.
Pregnant werewolves are unable to shift in any way after their first trimester. This is nature's way of protecting the offspring. Of course they can still get their claws and canines out, but that's as far as nature lets them shift under any circumstances, including the full moon.
Estimated lifespan: 150-200 years.

There are a few kinds of hybrids we allow on this site. Two of the types of hybrids we allow cannot occur outside of RP, but superkids being turned to either vampire or werewolf or witches being turned into a vampire is allowed at any point.
Werewolf/Superkid & Vampire/Superkid Hybrids Superkids that are turned into either a vampire or a werewolf tend to keep some for of their power in their new state of being, but other than that, they now also possess the usual strengths and weaknesses of their new species. Regular werewolf lifespan now occurs.
Vampire/Witch Basically your typical vampire. Though some witches retain some of there power in one way or another after being turned into a vampire.
Werewitches: There are two types of werewitches. They share the same strengths and weaknesses for the most part but are created in two very different ways. They are rare creatures though as werewitches are often shunned in most supernatural societies due to their abnormalities.
Type 1: Werewitches born to a werewolf father and a witch mother generally have a greater connection to their wolf side. This is the only way to be a natural werewitch, to have a witch for a mother and a werewolf for a father, and this type of hybrids are able to shift into their wolf form at a regular basis just like werewolves. Their magic is usually more powerful than regular witches due to their added strengths from being a werewolf as well, though they are more werewolves than they are witches. With practice and years of training, they won't have to shift at all if they don't want to.
Type 2: Witches turned werewolves aren't able to shift into a wolf other than during the full moon, and even then it's not always so. These werewitches are first and foremost witches, though they are most powerful around the full moon. Most werewitches created this way gain the regular werewolf strengths, but inherit a terrible aggressiveness due to pent up energy on the full moon if they cannot shift and run it off.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Strengths include rapid healing, immunity towards silver, enhanced senses, speed and strength and a deep connection to nature. Their magic is tightly knit to the lunar cycle and with training they don't have to shift at all if they don't want to.
Weaknesses include quite the temper if they can't find a way to use up the energy not shifting during the full moon builds up in them. Not all witches turned werewolves are even capable of turning at all. Their bites are harmless, meaning they cannot turn others and their bite isn't lethal to vampires. They are most vulnerable during a lunar eclipse as they will be completely powerless for the duration of it.
(Estimated lifespan: 200-250 years. Turning must occur through RP.)
Werewolf/Vampire Hybrids Now this is particularly tricky and risky business. A werewolf bite is lethal to vampires, and werewolves attempted to be turned into vampires generally die as their body can't handle it. In order to successfully turn a vampire into a hybrid, one needs to be bitten by a werewolf. Whilst the venom is working it's way through the vampire's system, slowly driving them insane before they die, you need a powerful witch to work some magic to stop the process and meld the two species within one body. This kind of magic is rare, and often requires the help of a necromancer, and an unafraid one at that. It's risky both for the witch and the vampire in question and there is never any guarantees that it will work.
The same process is required to save a werewolf that's somehow died with vampire blood in their system, though it is far less likely that a hybrid of sorts will be created this way as a werewolf most likely wouldn't have vampire blood in their system at any point.
If such a union is successful, the new hybrid will have gained some new strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths: -Immunity to silver -Immunity to sunlight -Strong -Fast -Powers of compulsion -Enhances senses
Weaknesses: -Cannot turn others -Wooden stake to the heart or decapitation will kill them -Not lethal to vampires -Blood no longer holds the healing qualities of a vampire, meaning it cannot be used to heal others. -Often struggle to shift into their wolf form -Mortal (They still have a very long lifespan, but the spell won't last forever)
(Expected lifespan: 400ish years, from the point of turning into such a hybrid. Cannot occur outside of RP.)
