Personality:
Tate is an odd one. His mood can change more often than you change your underwear. When he was a human he was sent to see a shrink in the hopes that it would help him but it didn't. Some said he was a psycopath, someone that should be kept in an asylum. Others said he had a split personality and he just needed to be kept on a short leash. Since being changed, he has had a desperate need for blood, almost agonising. It's not so much that he needs it but more that he has come to like the pleasure it gives him to kill.
He is quite the social butterfly on his good days and a loner on his bad days. Usually he gets his kicks out of other people’s misery or misfortune. Seeing an old lady fall over in the street? Tate would laugh for sure before making fun of her. He doesn’t think before he acts and is very opinionated and speaks his mind. This usually offends a lot of people though to him, it’s the best way to be. Don’t think he is truthful about everything though. He has no problem with pathological lying to get what he wants. He cheats, stabs people in the back and lies through his teeth 99% of the day.
He does have a cheeky nature to him though which leaves his friends appreciating him for being around. He tries to make people laugh and drag them out for adventures and dares. He tries to show them that everyone only lives once so there is no point being safe and careful about everything. Live your life and enjoy it, take risks and have fun. His confidence does make his very shallow and cocky; this is actually how he’s always been. The change has made him even worse though.
The only person he truly likes and would more often than not be truthful with is Maxxie.
Tate isn’t one to like anyone that wonders in to his life, they have to have something about them that stands out, if not, he will just think you are boring like everyone else. The same goes for love. At the moment, he’s a bit of a whore; again this is just down to him living his life to the max.
He’s a joker, a serial partier and never knows when to turn drink or cannabis down. Actually, he’s a lot calmer and laid back when he is smoking. His actual feelings are shown more and he doesn’t say half the hurtful, silly things he usually does. He does have a heart deep down somewhere and this is shown a lot more when he is stoned. In some ways, it’s good.
Once he loses his temper it is best to leave Tate alone. He doesn’t care who or what you are, he will lash out. His brother is always having fresh cuts across his body from where this has happened so a friend or a stranger would probably get it worse. He’s more likely to be like this when he is hungry.
Likes: Killing, Blood, Parties, Drinking, Smoking the dodgy stuff, Girls and Guys, Sleeping in, Skateboarding, Nightlife, His brother in moderation, Being a vampire, Singing, Playing the drums, Driving (illegally… makes it more fun), Being a show off, Living his life on the edge, Acting on impulse, Being annoying and cocky.
Dislikes: People that think they are better than him, Clinginess, Soppy stuff, Being alone, Being told what to do, Being rejected, Healing himself (it hurts), People hurting or saying things about Maxxie, Anything that involves him having to think, Not getting his own way.
Strengths: He is very stubborn and determined but this can also be a weakness. He is slightly faster than the average vampire, sharp tongued and not afraid to stand his ground. To those he likes, he can be very caring, though this is deep, deep down somewhere inside, His blood can severley damage anything living.
Weaknesses: Bad habits? He doesn’t think he has any but he has a lot. He leads people on far too much, Cheats, Lies, Drinks and smokes too much, Let's his mind tell him what to do, Lets his thirst for blood and killing get the better of him, Can rarely ever say no, Acts on impulse without thinking, Let’s his mouth get the best of him, Is incredibly shallow, Leaves everything until last minute and on top of that, he never knows when to back down or accept he may have lost a battle.
In school, he was always predicted to be the first of his class to be sent to prison by the time he reached high school or be dead. I guess the second one came true if not a little late.
Fears:He has a constant fear of being alone. He knows one day his brother will grow old or be killed and doesn’t want that to happen. He won’t admit it. He also fears his own intentions and capabilities. He knowing full well he loses and hurts a lot of people without meaning to and also hates this about himself. He fears having to apologise or admit he was wrong.
Weapon of choice: His looks alone… if that fails then he goes on to play mind games.
History: Both Max and Tate had pretty normal lives at one point. They were born and raised on the coast of California where they spent many summers by the beach, skateboarding along the promenades, partying around campfires and what not. Their parents worked very hard, Michael being a psychologist and Marie a teacher of psychology at the local university. They worked long hours which meant that often Max and Tate were left on their own with a nanny who also cleaned the house. They didn’t mind, they had a strong relationship and Tate always knew his brother would look after him.
When Maxxie started high school both Tate and himself thought it was strange. They hadn’t really been apart before and this is when Tate started acting out. His confidence grew and he’d often end up in detention or being sent home for doing something silly. He'd start fights, throw things at people, push people around and a few times seriously hurt someone. Max kept his head down and got stuck in with his work. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do when he grew up but wanted to excel in everything he could. The more they grew, the more obvious the two young boy’s differences became. By the time tate was 14 he was having to see a shrink twice a week and take medication to calm him down. Still, Max would still get his brother out of trouble whenever he needed and Tate would always invite his brother along to the high school parties and remind him that he was still young and needed to have fun once in a while.
On the year Max was going to graduate high school, Tate started seeing a young girl named Kira and being young and foolish, they were soon engaged. Of course, it wasn’t in Tate’s nature to stick to one thing and would easily grow bored. He’d turn to Max for advice who in return told him he was being a little silly in rushing things and that he should enjoy his life first. He didn’t break it off though and their relationship slowly put a lot of stress on them both.
It was on a night that Halloween fell on that their mother received a phone call from Kira. Tate had gone to a party in the next town with her, split up with her, hit her when she refused to let him leave in such an intoxicated state and had fallen ill and wouldn’t wake up. They thought he had taken something and from the panic they heard in the background, it was clear that something was very wrong. Marie and Michael left Max at home while they drove out to pick him up. Max hadn’t bothered with going to the party as he was due to start travelling the world the next day, an eight month trip he had planned for getting the grades he wanted and graduating.
Michael and Marie never made it home. Neither did Tate, at least not the Tate Max knew. When Max woke the next morning, two police officers were at his door. They explained they had found his parents car a few miles outside of town and needed to know where Tate was. Of course, Max didn’t know so didn’t tell them. They then went on to explain that his parent’s bodies had been found in nearby woods. It looked like an animal attack and they were barely recognisable. There was no sign of Tate though but his phone was found at the scene putting him in the spot as the main suspect.
Once they had left, Tate realised he wouldn’t be able to take the trip so went upstairs to unpack and sit down to think about what this now meant. In his room, which he had shared with Tate all his life, he found Tate sitting on the window ledge with a strange, sickening smile across his face. Sure enough, he was covered in blood and looked really very sick. When he spoke, he sounded different though Max couldn’t explain how. He said something miraculous had happened. He’d met a boy by the name of Alfie and the two had hooked up at the party. He said that Alfie was a strange, mysterious boy who had caused him so much pain yet so much pleasure at the same time. He hadn’t been from the world we know but from somewhere dark where the dead danced every night. It was a lot for Max to take in and obviously didn’t believe him at first. Even when Tate started chewing on his own arm he thought his brother had simply gone insane. It was when he told of how he’d woken up in the car, being suffocated by a horrific feeling of hunger and killed his parents to drain them did Max realise something had happened to his baby brother for sure. It was after Tate turned on him did Tate realise that this behaviour needed to be kept under control, the hunger and the short temper. To this day, Max still has long scars running across his body and bite marks from where he’s allowed his brother to feed in times of need.
They weren’t stupid, they knew they couldn’t stay. Tate was one of the most wanted in California by now and wouldn’t last long being surrounded by humans all the time. He’d murder every last one of them if he ever lost control. Packing their things, they came to the decision that they had nothing to stick around for now and should leave. For two years they travelled around different states in America. They had to move on so much because Tate kept finding himself in trouble or leaving too many dead bodies lying around after nights out. He always found the drunken people were the easiest to lure away from their friends only to be pounced on and brutally murdered by him.
Max, as always, cleared up after his brother and dragged him along. He knew Tate was becoming more trouble but also knew that without him, Tate would soon be dead too, if it be possible.
Max vowed to find the guy that changed their lives forever and one day kill him. He grew a burning hatred towards the supernatural though still loves his brother unconditionally. They settled in to a small town named Somber falls, somewhere where Tate couldn’t cause as much trouble as usual and somewhere he was more welcome. Turns out, most of the population of this town were supernatural in some ways meaning they had a fair chance against Tate when he lost it. It was perfect. Still, Max doesn’t think they’ll stick around long but in the meantime, he can practise his hunting skills and also learn more about the powers he has noticed he’s picked up in the last couple of years. He believes they have something to do with his brother, his brother’s change setting something of inside him like a trigger.
